Stephen Trimberger in residence as ISR visiting research engineer

The Institute for Systems Research extends a hearty welcome to Dr. Stephen M. Trimberger, who is spending four months in residence with us as a Visiting Research Engineer. Trimberger is a member of the National Academy of Engineering, elected in 2016 “for contributions to architectures and programming tools for field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs).” Trimberger also is a Fellow of ACM and IEEE. Along with William Carter, he received the 2018 IEEE Donald O. Pederson Award in Solid-State Circuits “for contributions to field-programmable gate array integrated circuit technology.”

Trimberger’s distinguished career at Xilinx Research Labs, including Fellow, involved leading a research group investigating various aspects of semiconductor devices, including power optimization, die stacking, variation, hardware security, defect tolerance, multi-context FPGA architecture and software, FPGA+microprocessor hybrid, first complete FPGA synthesis library, fault tolerance. He defined the XC4000X FPGA architecture, led XC4000 EDA development, and invented practical FPGA bitstream encryption.

Please join us in welcoming Steve Trimberger to ISR!
